Boone County Community Gardens
There are two garden locations that grow produce for distribution through partner charity outreaches in Boone County.
In 2023 there were 26 Master Gardeners actively involved with BCCG and dozens of community volunteers joining on harvest days and larger community workdays.
Production Garden – “Feeding Our Neighbors Since 2017”
Our Production Garden was first established in 2017 after an invite from The Lebanon Church of Christ to establish a community garden on their property. Having a mission to organically grow nutritious, fresh produce to feed our neighbors we’ve implemented several best practices. Please click the link below for our garden brochure that outlines some of our best practices and provides 2024 garden layout.
The Production Garden has grown to 5000 sq. ft. and is aptly named due to the continually increasing amount of produce donated each year from this location. In addition to the significant amount of produce donated from this garden, it is also the education & community outreach hub for the gardens. This garden hosts community volunteer workdays, meetings and garden tours for civic volunteer organizations, garden education sessions for the Montessori School located on-site, and it welcomes clients of The ARC of Greater Boone County and MHABC to learn about gardening and assist with harvests.
The Caring Center
An onsite garden was started in 2006 at The Caring Center and is managed by Boone County Master Gardeners. The Caring Center garden location is 2200 sq. ft. All produce grown there is distributed through The Caring Center’s food pantry and is used in the cooking club classes held at their location. The Caring Center is a central “go to” agency for people in need whether it be a need for food, clothing, personal care, or life skills classes.
